COUNCIL MEMBER DAVID A. FRANCZYK BRINGS 60 FAMILIES TO THEATRE OF YOUTH
BUFFALO, NY - Theatre of Youth (TOY), Buffalo’s only professional theatre devoted solely to child audiences and their families, is thrilled to partner with Council Member David A. Franczyk in bringing 60 families to TOY through the Fillmore District Neighborhood Initiative Fund.
Theatre of Youth and Council Member Franczyk have always been committed to ensuring that the children of Buffalo have access to positive, life enriching experiences. Realizing that arts and cultural institutions, even at discounted prices, can be out of the reach of many city children, Council Member Franczyk and TOY saw an opportunity: free tickets to the kids of Franczyk’s Fillmore District.
“Access is always the biggest thing,” states TOY Managing Director Kevin Leary. “Research shows that children -regardless of socioeconomic background- who attend arts and cultural institutions have higher test scores and aptitude levels, go further with their education, and are more apt to be involved in their communities as adults. But if they can’t afford the opportunity, they never get this advantage. We’re delighted that Council Member Franczyk has provided this advantage to Fillmore District kids.”
To distribute the tickets, Council Member Franczyk’s office is hosting a district-wide coloring contest for any kids interested in attending TOY. Children are invited to access the coloring page from Theatre of Youth and Council Member Franczyk’s social media accounts or from Council Member Franczyk’s office, the Allendale Theatre, or any participating community organizations. Submissions are restricted to residents of the Fillmore District and should be returned to Council Member Franczyk’s office at 1408 City Hall, Buffalo, NY 14202 by December 9, 2016. The top 60 submissions will be given two complimentary tickets for any show in the remainder of the 2016-2017 Theatre of Youth season. Winners will be notified by a phone call.
“This will enrich and educate the children of Fillmore District,” said Council Member Franczyk. “One day, one of these lucky winners might perform on the stage for future generations after being exposed to the Creative Arts through our partnership with the Theatre of Youth.”
