Whereas,               the world of law enforcement has changed drastically over the years with the surge in technology to include: body cameras, high-tech squad cars, dash cams, and other devices keeping both officers and citizens safe;

 

Whereas,               dashboard cameras provide automatic digital evidence to better protect officers both on the streets and in the courts;

 

Whereas,               the Buffalo Police Department recently put together a panel looking into the possibility of adding body cameras to our police force to study equipment, costs, and legal issues involved. A similar panel and study for the use of dash board cameras would also be beneficial to determine the same; and

 

Whereas,               protecting our police officers and residents will place the emphasis on positive community standards that our residents deserve and expect: Now, Therefore Be It

 

Resolved that The City of Buffalo Common Council-

                           

1.)              Respectfully request the Buffalo Police Commissioner attend an upcoming Finance Committee meeting to discuss the implementation of the usage of dashboard cameras in police vehicles.

Copies of this Resolution should be sent to the Buffalo Police Department, Law Department, Administration and  Finance, MIS, and the Buffalo Fire Department
